9800 Pro - dead?
On boot, XP SP2 was getting stuck loading agp440.sys in safe mode. So I disabled this service using the repair console and now I can boot into XP, but I cannot see my vga card listed in the device manager and of course graphics are now horrible. I was wondering if the board had come loose, so wiggled things around and rebooted but no go. Is there any way that I can confirm the board is fried before I shelve out $$$ for a new one, or any other suggestions I could try?
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro + Zalman heat-pipe
Omega Driver 3.8.205 (Cat 6.2)
P4P800 MB
3.3G P4c
2G RAM
Zalman 500W PSU
... if it is fried, what would be a recommended replacement? I don't think it's worth going for top of the line, as this rig is a couple of years old now. I'm thinking about starting a new project anyway, so what I really need is a solid card with good performance and well matched to my specs.
