A Beta version of the 82.xx's is also available from NV, but again, its mainly geared towards a couple of fixes for SLI

Hooya!
It kind of impresses me how they ( Nvidia ) can make new drivers to fit all of those VC's old and new.... with little known issues... The last set I downloaded improved my cards performance in lighting and FPS... really wasn't expecting that..so thats nice. Have'nt played anything yet to check them out..but am going to play a bit of CSS now.
Yeah.. this whole SLI thing.. A new age is here it seems and when I get my new mobo and CPU I may be in for some pleasant surprises...abeit stillhavingto wait to get a good SLI VC. LOL

SLI's just a rich kids novelty play thing if you ask me. Dual core GPU's is going to be the real "next big thing"(TM)

On that end..( CPU's)...my socalled expert friendwho builds machines... just had to put the thought into my head about getting an X2 CPU versus the one I am getting.. ( 64 3700+ ) and I did go and read up about what they do and the advantages..and all...but I am stil goingtoget my origial choice.. From what i read its not only about more speed which everybody knows..but I guess it handles hyperthreading and mutiple apps. better.
Since I usualy am not oneto dotoomany things at the same time while doing some
present operation on the computer..I think i'll be fine with the basic 64 model.
Too bad I know..but itslike about $100.00 more to get the X2 3800 and I justdo not have the cash for it.... IfI did i would get a new video card upgrade. LOL

The X2's do look like the way to go, however they are too pricey at the moment.
i was in a similar situation earlier this month, no way i could afford an X2. Ideally i wanted a San Diego 3700+ but couldnt really afford that either.
In the end i got myself a 146 Opteron (2.0Ghz), as esentially the Opteron's are running a San Diego Core (they have 1mb of L2 Cache) and the 200Mhz o/c required to get it up to 3700+ is abvsoloutley nothing (these things will comoftably do from 2.6 right up to 3.0Ghz on air cooling). Costs about the same as a Venice XP3200+ too (i.e. not a lot)
..anyways, wandered a bit off topic there...

Stark Raving MOD
FYI, the 81.98s were rereleased to support the 7800GS AGP.

Hooya!
I may have went a bit overboard..esp. since i bought it and now i just got a 3 week eviction notice ( no explanation here..its personal ) so in that time i might be offline for a period of time.. hard telling... Down the road it will be agood buy even if i paid $325.00..but right now it oks to be premature...considering i need the money now.
Obviously from all my posts about my game runnng problems elsewhere in this forum...you all now i went ahead and got the X2.
off subject a bit...: ( my mobo..an X2 and drivers?? )
I installed the 81.85's and they are no different as far as solving my problems then the other same thing. I really do not think its the video card drivers... I can tell. Usually with drivers they will at least play whatever game...even if in game problems like artifacts or splotching occur.
Not to spoil yur analysis ..but if you read the read me notes Nvidia drivers nowadays are endorsed for ALL GForce cards...back to the GForce 4. The 81.89's worked fantastic on my old Intel I865PE chipset board with my P4 2.8c CPU. No problems whatsoever... just boosted my performance 10-15%.
AMD CPU's might be a tad different in what drivers they like..I am not too knowledgeable about that.
All I know is that until I get my own problems fixed its hard telling just what effect they have on running and working with dul core CPU's versus the other added improvements for the 7800's. LOL

Hooya!
Just wanted to post some update info...
Contrary to some of what i wrote above... I may not be as much in a hurry to ditch this board and esp. the CPU ( X2 3800+ ) after all.
Yes i am still having some problems..but actaully since my move and going thorugh some past reboot and graphics glitches and problems at first..it now very well may be that my video cardis either getting worn down finally ( after foru years of very heavy gaming ) or something else.
Just now i played through a couple of levels of Quake 4 and its never done that before..although near the end of my last save it just kindof went nuts with some missing graphics in the game itself...and then the display went black.
Went into process panel and some things may be suspect as causing this..but i'm not sure.
Anyways i played like CSS for four hours last night..no crashes..or reboots and thats a first along with some SOF 2 for a good long time..with no graphics errors.
When i do get glitches it has to do with graphic shaders... and some periodic flickering.
Yes..it stilll could even be the board AGP slot not getting the singnal right to the AGP card ..
Anyways i am at present just going to stick with this a while longer.... The processor is just dynomite. Sweet and fast as heck and that includes playing music and the internet whic h is much faster with this CPU.
The best overall avenue seems to be to jsut save whenever i can and pick up a good middle end PCI video card. That way i could keep the board and not have to buy like three major pieces of HW. ( PSU..Mobo..Video card ) LOL
