linksky port forwarding
hi all i just got a wireless linksys wrt54gs and a usb network adaptor
im running 3 computers in the house all on xp one computer is wired and the other has the wireless usb. they are all working as should be (great)
the thing is now is that i share files with friends from work using ftp but now they cant get connected i know its something to do with port forwarding and need a little help with what info to put in. i did have the same problem at one time with my wired router but i figured that out with the virtual server that came with that
this new router is a bit more complicated.
thanks for any help (the main computer is the one that serves ) i also use bulletproof

By default ftp uses ports 20-21.
You have to forward these ports through the Router, and Software firewall ( http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ports ).
In the WRT54 it is the first menu under Applications & Games (read the manual for more precise instructions).

Port Fowarding is setup in Applications & Gaming . Set up Bulletproof as the app , the ports your using and the pc's LAN IP ( 192.168.1.xxx) , check enable , save the settings . Bulletproof should have a PASV toogle , you'll probably need it. Your buddies need your routers Internet IP . You'll find that in the Status page.

i have set that part in applications and gaming
bulletproof range 2000 to 2000 and ip then enable
i use no-ip info so i just need to change the ip there and all my workmates can still use the same name i gave them.
what ip should i put in the forwarding part the routers or my true

From the out side you use the extremnal IP and the port number.
I.e., if your external ip is 65.44.32.2:2000
Since port 2000 is open to the computer with the ftp server the signal would be routed to it.
Look toward the end of this page it explains the principle. http://www.ezlan.net/vnc.html

The port range should be 2000 - 2000 in the router settings if you have the FTP server configured that way. It looks like you configured the server for port 21 . You might check XP's ICF or other software firewall settings if you have them running .
Heres some additional info from No-IP , http://www.no-ip.com/support/guides/...sl_router.html
You may want to consider giving the pc with the ftp server a static LAN IP in the event the IP changes , which usually happens if you start or run your different pc's at different times .

i had the port settings set at 2000 - 2000 in the router settings and on (bulletproof ) my software its the same setting i had for my wired router and it worked now that ive changed routers ive had to change router settings and software settings to 21 to get friends connected ( firewall norton worked on 2000 before my change and i had it disabled when i set up using 2000 because i was having problems and thought it might have been that) but now its enable and still have to use port 21. if i change to port 2000 friends get connected but cant download or upload if i leave it at 21 its ok

The problem doesn't seem to be the port or the router , but the server or firewall settings. You need to be sure of Norton's settings. And here's some good info from BulletProof support on the matter... http://support.bppresence.com/suppor...b.php?id=10100
