What in tar heels is going on..??DL speeds are extremely slow all over

For awhile now I have been getting some real slow download speeds even though I have a 8000KBPS cable speed line....and there must be something roti en in Denmark somewhere.

I am currently downloading the latest Nvidia drivers and I am getting a 6-8 KB/sec download speed.

Before if I loaded drivers or whatever it would complete in a matter of less than 30 secs.

An hour for the download ?? That is pure lunacy.

What can be causing this?? Any hints guys??

If twelve thousand other people around the world are downloading at the same time, this would put a bit of a strain on the site you're getting the drivers from.

Steve...I thought I wrote another reply yesterday....but I guess not.

In any case...I am again experiencing this when downloading any downloads... meaning they are lower than when I got my first computer with dial up four years ago. This just isn't right...and I cannot agree with yur quick answer analogy given above. It doesn't hold water.

Just a while ago ..about 45 minutes or so..I started to download a couple of demos from two different sites..; FilePlanet and 3D Gamers.

One started at and stayed at 8.5kbps and the other started at 585kbps and has dropped to 23.3 kbps.

I think you would agree that these are VERY low speeds... can't get much lower.... and cannot see it as the number of users doing the same..

Not knowing if download accelerators might be zapping linespeed from others somewhere is suspect??or possibly something is amiss in my system that causes this??

If I cannot get a satisfatory answer here..I will find out somewhere. Thanks!

No reason to get snotty. Had the same problem recently with Adelphia. You behind a router? if so hook up direct to your modem and check your IP address. Do a release and renew.

Have you tried all the obvious fixes. IE, hard reset of the modem and router??

I experience this occasionally, that usually cures it.

Most of us experience "slowness" from time to time. Being a smart person, I assume your behind a hardware firewall - if so disconnect and go straight to your line, any difference? As previously suggested do a reboot of all your hardware, renew/release your IP, etc... still slow? Call your ISP if you've done all of the above and still experience significant slowness.
