No Password Needed When Accessing Files On Another Computer

    Hi

I recently reformatted the hard drive on my Dell Inspirion XPS laptop computer. Prior to the reformat, I had to enter a password before I could access other drivers (folders / files) on my desktop PC.

After the reformat of my laptop, when accessing a drive on my desktop PC, it is not asking for a password like it did in the past.

What do I need to do to have my drives (folders / files) password protected, so that when I attempt to access them, I have to input a password.

I have a Linksys Cable Modem, Wireless Router and Wireless network system that I am using. I also have Windows XP Pro on both the desktop PC and laptop.

Thanks for the help and quick response.

are you using the same usernames and passwords on both systems? if so, then that would allow you to go between systems without additional authentication. That's the point of access tokens. I don't know why you want to make it harder for yourself.

try using different usernames and passwords on each system. The other system should prompt you to enter a valid account/password.

I think I figured it out....had to disable "simple file sharing".

Will check to see if that prompts me to enter the password from the computer I'm trying to access drives (folders/files) from.

yup. simple file sharing folders are wide open. I saw you had xp pro, so I thought you had used regular NTFS shares.

OK...I disabled simple file sharing on my laptop, and it is still not requiring a password to access the drives (folders / files) from my desktop PC.

Also, no password is required when I access the drives (folder / files) on my laptop from my desktop PC.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Got it figured out. Had the same passwords on laptop and desktop. When I changed my password on the laptop, I was required to enter the password for the desktop when trying to access files on the desktop.
