    Google Earth - installer hangs

Not sure if Google Earth qualifies as a "game" so maybe I'm in the wrong forum, but I can't install it - progress bar doesn't move. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful:

... it's supposed to be quite something.

Well XP (SP2) looks sick indeed. I now find the following symptoms:

cannot update XP - installation fails
cannot install a new game that I bought
    cannot view internet connection properties
system seems slow on start up

I checked the MS support pages for help with the connection properties and it says that my WMI file is corrupted and that I should repair windows. So... I tried this and I got a bunch of error messages about not being able to locate a file on E://i368/.... etc. Weird because it suggest to me that the disc is damaged, but I've been through this process before and never had this problem and on inspection the disc looks ok.

I've checked for spyware/virus using AVG, spybot, spyware blaster, a-squared, ad-aware and the ms utility, but everything comes back ok.

My next step is going to be backup, reformat and reinstall from scratch unless anyone has a better idea.

Before you go do that I think you should use a restore point. Just in case it works!
