US TROOP BAN LIFTED
The ban on US Air Force personnel entering London following last Thursday's attacks has been rescinded, the US embassy has confirmed.
The move followed criticism from police, politicians and tourism officials.
The order involved around 5,000 servicemen and women based at RAF Mildenhall and a further 5,000 based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
They were told not to go inside the M25.
The directive, issued on Thursday, was considered by the US authorities to be the most effective measure to protect their troops.
Personnel were told not to enter the capital until further notice, except on official business, and their families were encouraged to do the same.
But the move was roundly condemned across the capital.
Conservative defence spokesman Andrew Robathan said the order should have been rescinded immediately.
"It sends out all the wrong messages about London being a place to visit for tourism or whatever," he said.
"It sends out the message, contrary to everything we have been saying and George Bush has been saying, that the terrorists have, in fact, won to a certain extent because we are changing our plans for them, we are not going to London because of them."

All it demonstrates that once you join the US military you are nothing but cattle. I think those serving in the Armed Forces deserve a bit of respect for their own ability to make a decision.
