Is there a solution to end terrorism?
It seems everywhere you look the more the violence the more it grows. Has anyone noticed a significant reduction in terrorism recently in Israel? What happen there to effect the sudden turn around in violence and terrorist bombings there? I'm going to tell you what happened and then we can listen to the military solutions that failed from all the war hawks. Israel made concessions to their tormentors. That's right. They gave in to terrorist demands and returned property they took in previous wars. Oh, they lost face to be sure. They sucked it up and buried the dead once and for all and stopped the hate and anger and prejudice all in one svelte swoop. Take a look at what happened in Libya. They passed the peace pipe too. They gave up their pursuit of nuclear arms to make peace. Now it's time for the US and England to step up to the plate and make some concessions. Will we figure it out before it is too late? Can the violence end if we pull our troops out of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait and Yemen? Can we ever bury the hatchet once and for all? I don't know the answer but if you have one lets hear it. I am tired of listening to how death, destruction and the nuclear option is our only options.
There is a simpe solution.
The West should mind its own bloody business and keep out of countries where it isn't wanted.
It's a myopic argument because it only considers the effect of a few settled disputes, not how many MORE acts of violence are done because some group saw another group get what they were after through these means. It seems more civilized to the naked eye perhaps, but it's actually irresponsible. Never bargain honestly with someone holding a gun to your head. If you do you place countless other people's heads at risk.

I agree, we should also keep our money, technology, jobs, economic aid, trade and food out of these same places.
That would work for me. But it'll never happen.
Didn't Israel put up a stinking big wall? That curbed a lot of the violence.
It is impossible to stop terrorism. Ideology, religion and different political thoughts will always bring about some form of terrorism or war. Not to mention natural resources such as oil that western countries seek.
The answer is that there is no answer. No matter what we do, we'd end up making somone unhappy, or we'd endanger ourselves even more. There are just too many nasty scenarios to consider. World politics doesn't make anything easy.
One problem is the terrorists don't even know what they're fighting for. They're raised simply to hate other people and kill them. If we retreated, and said, "All right, guys, we give up. What is it you want?" they wouldn't even be able to tell us. There was no reason for them to attack on 9/11, and then they have the gall to get upset when we retaliate.
Are we supposed to abandon the ways of our country - democracy, capitalism, etc. - because they don't like it? Are we supposed to just give them millions of dollars a year to make them feel better about themselves? They're just too blinded by their hatered for everything different to realize that maybe if they stopped acting like idiots and killing innocent people, they'd have a better shot at bargaining. The terrorists act like they're the good guys, protecting the average Middle Eastern man from the big bad USA, but they're not protecting anybody from anything, and I think the average Middle Eastern man is catching on. Who would want to be oppressed by groups like the Taliban? Who would rather endure that, then have the freedom to make their own decisions, even if they freely decide to keep things the same?
While I have my reservations about the whole Iraq thing, I also don't think it's right to sit back and let the world go downhill. We have to protect ourselves. Take North Korea for example. If we don't do anything, they just might be crazy enough to develop the Big Nuke and use it, just for the heck of it. If we do take action, there will always be some backlash. Nobody wins, but maybe someone doesn't lose as much. There's no decent way out, and there never will be until people stop being stupid on all sides.
That was pretty good. Well done.

We are dealing with deranged people who think God is speaking to them and perhaps even appearing as well.
It's not possible to negotiate with God (Usama bin Laden) because he is in hiding, and we can't find him.
Islam is very strict about images of God, yet they are prepared to believe that God tells them to murder people,.
When does this God tell them this?
It's hard to believe that a strict religion would allow someone pretending to be acting on Gods orders not to be punished.
A knowledgeable Mullah should be given access to the media which reaches all Islamic countries, and he should be able to discredit these phoney, 'it's Gods will' merchants' and turn rational people against the madmen who seem to be using God as an excuse to further there own political agendas.
That was good too. Some thoughtful people hereabouts. Religious fanaticism is always insanity cloaked as righteousness. It's not always inimical, but it's always nuts. These fanatics are dangerous poseurs, as was said above. I hope I can forgive myself for quoting Bush but they have hijacked a religion. Obviously none of this really has anything to do with god.
It's beginning to look like The Muslim religion is infected with a disease that must be quarantined to stop it. So far all those who are known to have attacked the US in the 911 incident were foriegners. These people know who amoung them is to blame. I have never before suggested that taking away the rights of American citizens is warranted but I see no problem with deporting all foriegn Muslims and denying them access to America until this terrible disease is arrested. We keep out people with tuberculosis don't we? I say round them all up and isolate them from the population for a while until the disease can be controlled. If the foriegners are all deported and the problem persists then start weeding out the rest. It may take years and will cost billions more, but what will this war cost in dollars and innocent lives if it continues for generations to come. This is not like WWII when the Japanese were put in internment camps. There was no proof that the Japanese Americans were involved with terrorism or helping the emporer of Japan and they understood it was necessary. We did what we had to do at the time. I say put out the word to the entire world that one more act of terrorism in this country and that's what happens. I suggest the same hardline stance in England and every other country that want's to end the terrorism problem.
Well said Ukulele. A lot of people think what you said is dispicable because you're blaming the whole muslim religion but what other choice do we have? How can we know which are willing to die for their cause (and act on it) and which are not?
