I have been playing a bunch on RamonGTP's server, if you go to "connect to IP" and type in halo.xweb.org, and use the default port, you will connect to it.
I was just on a few minutes ago, but it was empty. Perhaps later in the day it will fill up.
Yeah, it took a while to recover from the server getting shut down, but server is back to full again. I just tried to log on and couldn't cuz it was full, about to go check some player stats and kick someone in the negatives, haha. Only problem now is that the 2.4G P4 is getting WORKED with 60+ players. The good news is that I got the green light from the boss today to make a newegg shopping list for an Athlon 64 based server. I want to go with the 3500+ but I may go for the 3200+ because of price. He's not making any money off this server and I don't want to be too greedy. Either way, it will hold up a lot better than a 2.4GHz
Of course since I like to fly... One of the first things i thought about upon entering this new game were who and how do you get to fly those.
Am I missing an airbase(s) somewhere?
One of the more enjoyable things I liked about BF Vietnam and Desert Combat was the ability to fly the choppers. As hard as they were to learn at first...upon much practice they worked extremely well as all the aircraft do in this game. Much more intense and devestating.
I'll wite that server down...and I can imagine that running on a 2.4GHZ processor would put a heavy strain on the server.
I think what a person needs is a dual processor server system..and then the game should run like a champ..with little slowdowns. The more the players..naturally, the less the game will be in overall fluidity and speed.
Ramon.. maybe you can talk to your boss about getting one of those newer boards that run dual processors since already you two and all of us might want to play. But.. a 3500 is still better than the former.
Not that you would see me much..but my online name is the same as above... I would like to change it though someday.

Dual CPU's would be nice, but I don't think that the BF server would take advantage of it. And again, I don't want to take advantage of his generousity. Not only is he paying for the hardware, but the bandwidth to host it as well. A 64 player server uses up a good 7-8mbit of bandwidth. To put it in perspective, thats twice the bandwidth that some of the faster cable providers let you have DOWNSTREAM, and anywhere from 16 to 32 times more than what you get for UPSTREAM bandwidth.
Got on your server fine last night ramone.. and there were only about six or seven players on each side..but no matter.
It played and worked fine for me..with no slowdowns..so if indeed it is taxed with more players playing then that is one reason I suppose that the other night ZI had so many slow motion play within the game.
Again, we all need to get together on playing times so I can join in. Don't expect me to be a rear end kicker..but I play good and all.
Its just like a popular game to come out where already we ahve many hotshots who seem better at the game..but no worries as it takes practice and time.
I got to try and fly the jet and chopper and OH BOY..waht a treat. I crashed either upon take off or shortly thereafter, due to my not knowing the proper key controls..
One word for these great additions. Sophisticated! much more updated from previous editions... and devastating.
Someone tell me or direct me as to the key commands for these...
The server really starts to pick up around 4pm Pacific time, and generally stays pretty full until about 2am when it drops to about half capacity, then pretty much dies out around 4am and picks back up again 12 hours later.
It's 8pm here now and i've got 60 on there now. I'm waiting until tomorrow to get back on to play. One of my ram sticks is bad and I get random reboots when playing. I could take it out and run with 1GB, but it runs so much better with 1.5. I should be getting my 512MB Corsair XMS XL stick from newegg tomorrow, thursday at the latest.
Oh, We should also be receiving our parts for the Athlon64 server tomorrow, if so i'll have a busy day ahead of me tomorrow. Have a two clients to see in the morning, then two servers to build when I get back to the shop, and thats assuming nothing else comes up. Probably won't actually go live on the new server until the full version comes out.
In the control options menu, you can see what the default keys are for land, sea, and air vehicles, as well as foot transportation. Flying helicopters is certainly a challenge, but if you get good at it, and have a good gunner with you, you will be quite a formidiable opponent. A teammate and I took the MEC attack chopper all the way out to the US carrier and were able to knock off quite a few suprised enemy soldiers waiting for their airplanes to respawn.
It is so nice when you guys respond and give back the answers i was looking for.. Thanks alot.
I was plalying it at around 2:30am Ramone...so that makes sense.
Since you are on the west coast pings should be fine..as I live in Oregon..as is the time schedule you wrote down.
Like alot of online games..it might take me awhile before I get to use and know all that is in the game.
MJC.. I did'nt even know there was an aircraft carrier out there.. dummy me. Of course I only really tried to fly once for each..but those aircraft( both) are alot more updated than the previous models. I think flying the choppers is way cool. I did alright at first..but quickly lost altitude and did crash and burn. Ha Ha!
Might try and play some after getting off this post.
As far as my previous problems go..I just reset the thing to default settings and tried that. Looks basicly the same but plays just fine.. so for now I will go with that.
I gotta say, I like it!!! Much more dynamic in the options of roles than cs or aa. Maps are larger and the "scoring" system works well with such a large map.
I was playing on Ramon's server for about 5hrs, did commander a few times as well.....cool capabilities!!! I think I was playing with RaBBit on my side...that is, until I crashed the blackhawke I was piloting, killed a full boatload and got booted....now the server's saying I can't connect. death_by_mouseclick is me, if you see me around.
Yeah.. I think I have alot to learn yet and thats OK. As soon as I am able to learn how to fly those jets and choppers in this game..it will be even more fun. Laser guided missles and bombs. What a concept. They are pretty devastating too.
How does Commander work??? What does he do and what is he capable of?
