HELLO I NEED SOME INFO ON EPSON INK CARTRIDGES AS TO THEIR FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS I UDERSTAND THE INTELLIDGE CHIP SYSTEM I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE SEALS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE INK JET CARTRIDGES FOR THE STYLUS R 200 STYLE

Welcome to Sysopt IAND123... yes, please do lay off of using all caps when typing...that is frowned on everywhere.

As I am told, all Epson printers use a chip in their print cartridges that turn off the print heads after a certain amount of printing, totally disabling these cartridges from being refillable and/or reusable.

This only effects users of Epson printers, but the good side is, Epson cartridges are cheaper than other brands.

I have no way to prove the above because I do not own an Epson printer...but have read about this elsewhere.

You can get info on refilling cartridges at the various sites that sell refill kits like cfriends.com or Kalvins.com . AFAIK, the seal that's over the mouth of the carts when new is some kind of poly just heat sealed to the mouth. It's hard to get most tapes to stick because of the solvents in the ink itself. And there are devices to reset the chips if need be.
. I would recommend moving to Canon printers. TCO is much cheaper than Epson no matter how you slice it. Plus you don't have to deal with the major clogging problem that Epson has had (and never resolved) ever since they went to the piezo print heads.

On some lexmark refills I have substituted a short stainless steel screw or tapered rubber stopper after refilling. I suppose one could also use a small dollop of silicone sealant/dhesive (mebbe even hotglue) to reseal them, wouldnt be hard to remove that later...and apparently with the HP and epson carts, if you refill them b4 they run dry can help. Supposedly the epson page counter needs to be reset anyhow, but the HP printheads burn and fail if allowed to print completely empty.

I have never used an epson so I cant speak directly to the resetting.

I made the mistake of initially getting an Epson printer also. I say that because i have not really used mine much,but the little I did when I first got it, I was less than impressed by the quality of output.
plus.., it makes alot of racket

Recently , I have had the need to use it again and I was out of ink in both cartridges,so I just ordered a black cartridge this month just to find out after the darn thing would not work that I indeed need both of them for the printer to work. Now.., I do not know if all of the other printer brands out there have this same thing to sort out...but I am going to order another color one and I wrote them and ssaid if it does not work after that,then it is taking a short trip out my window..whereas I will have to someday buy another printer.

They do sell refill kits for the various models ( mine is on the list ) and as far as I know, alot of people are going this route to save money..ect....

I would much rather have a print/scan copier all in one machine and even a fax machine also.

Is this the Epson Stylus Color 200 or the Epson Stylus Photo R200. You have to be more specific. Both of these printers do not take the same ink cartridges.
And the Photo R200 prints directly onto printable cds/dvds

Just wanted to say i to have an epson printer buts its the cheaper one epson stylus C86 photo printer and it works really really well, gr8 prints everytime ( Wen i first purchased it ) ! ! !

Then i had trouble with the inks cloggin and not printing at all, and after running through about 30 cleaning cycles and using up all my ink .. still nothing, E mailed the tech ppl and they said try using genuine Epson cartridges (at £19.99 black ) and £10 each for the colour, Did a cleanin cyle this didnt work, then they said that it may need a service , ( printer is 6mths old ) (compatable inks are to think for the printer ) blah blah blah ... Not very helpful.

So i got to thinkin, why not inject a small amount of cartridge flush in with the inks wen i refill my cartridges and thin down the ink, tryed this and now it works just as new.

Also if your one cartridge is out of ink remove it , use sellotape on the bottom to plug the outlet hole and then use the chip resetter and then replace the cartridge back in empty and u will find that the printer will then carry on workin as though a new cartridge is installed.

I now use refillable cartridges from www.jrinkjet.com and there inks and use a little bit of cartridge flush each time i fill up and have had NO more problems, just happy printing everytime.

first i would like to apologize to everyone for using caps in my original posting, i am not gifted with the best vision and am a terrible typist so i often revert to caps, sorry. second thank you to all that posted for the helpful info as to my original question.
epson photo stylus r200 with cd/dvd printing capabilities. i think i have overcome some of the problems i was having 1) at first i mistakenly punctured the seal on the last hole on the bottom of the printer/ this isn,t a refill hole it is a valve the gets depressed when inserted into the printer body it has a flexible seal over it to allow for depression without puncture, epson is trying desperately to stop refillers from succeeding. the seal has to be removed from one of or both of the other two holes for refilling which one is the best is what i am trying to find out , the holes behind the valve hole are simple to seal but the hole with the valve is a no no stay away from the seal over this valve, sealing the other two with candle wax works fine for me, i have used this technique in the past on other cartridges... now which hole is best for refilling is the question i post to the room
