    Low-level vs High-level format

are there any advantages to one or another? Would a low-level format eliminate problems that a high-level format wouldn't elminate? I'm wondering which one to use for my next format, I'm thinking that if I format, I better format it well and do a low-level format... Am I right?

if you have bad sectors or a really stubborn virus, you can do a low level, but for normal purposes it just isn't necessary.

Yep, i only ever really do Low-Level formats if i suspect the disk has a bad secotr, or im giving/sellling the disk to someone else - to make sure as much data as possible will have been wiped.

If your just reformatting, then a normal fdisk will do

LLF manufacturer software may "certify" the disk and wipe out bad sectors but they have a habit of coming back - I always run scandisk or chkdsk afterwards if I'm reusing a drive just to play it safe.....
