I live in New York, where smoking in any public place is illegal. I support this. I would prefer to see better filtration of air in larger facilities so that it could support both smokers and non-smokers, but I think the ban will be better in the long run.
The biggest drawback I have seen is in small diners, patrons will "go outside to have a smoke" when they are done, then just take off without paying the check.
The biggest benefit I have seen is since I don't drink much, my wife has absolutely no idea that I was out! I no longer come home smelling like an ashtray. "Dream Girls" here I come!

I support a ban anywhere but a bar. That is just going too far. I smoke, I don't go to bars but I used to. That is what a bar is all about. The smoke filled bar is Americana, it is an institution.
That is taking non smokers rights to the extreme. I'll never support it. If you really care about your health a bar is one place you should avoid.

Kinda like those vegetarian idiots who sued McDonalds because they used a beef base thing for their fries. If you're a vegetarian, WTF are you doing getting McDonalds fries????
If you go to a bar, don't expect a fruit plate and lemon water! Get a beer or a good scotch, light up a cig or a cigar, play some pool, throw some darts and shut up.

Being from NY and frequenting the bars there I love the fact that they have banned smoking in them. It it such a relief and I have yet to meet one smoker who really complains about having to step outside for a toke.
Best part is that the next morning I can walk out of whoever's apartment and still smell fresh as a daisy.
