    Wireless router question

I haven't been able to determine whether the following setup would work:

Someone puts their wireless router in their basement, and plugs it in directly to the wall. They have a desktop computer upstairs with a wireless card. Would that computer be able to get on the internet even though the wireless router is not wired to a computer directly?

    Thanks

That is why it called Wireless. It Does Not Need Wire.

Might be that you would need to put a Wired computer for the initial configuration, and then take it off.

Basement to Upstairs? It depends what is that you call upstairs and how is the layout of the house. One floor above it probably will work well, two floors? Might or might Not you would have to try and if necessary buy more hardware to extend the distance.

The content of the following links might help:

The whole thing should look like this: Diagram of Broadband Connection with Cable/DSL Router.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.
