I wouldnt get bowled over by it either if i were you, similar "super-pipelining" was promised on the X800 series and that failed to deliver on the promises

I did look at the index page and didn't see it mentioned or I would not have posted......I don't care about the new all that much... I can't afford the old yet!

You think? The only thing the x800 wasn't great at was doom3 because carmack used techniques that favoured the geforce architecture and Open GL, rather than the more common and definatley more supported Direct 3D.
Dont the Geforce 6800 cards have 16 pixel pipes? or is it just 12? Either way, they certainly run a lot faster than 8 pipeline cards.

Wether 32 pixel pipeline cards get a boost is dependant on the number of pixel shaders used. Current games only use a couple at any one time so even a card with only 8 might only have to do 2 passes, but upcomming games could use a lot more effects and the older 8 pipeline cards might need to do 4, 5 or 6 passes. A 32 pixel pipe card would certainly have the grunt to do everything in a single pass.
OF course, thats upcomming games, not current ones.

Dont get me wrong, the top end of the X800 range are still the fastest cards out there in terms of raw power. All i'm saying is that all the Pr hype that wa splaced on "super-pipelining" never really came to fruition.

As such if the R520 comes with a full 32 pipes out opf the box then i wont be too worried, however rumors are abound that the card will in fact be a 24 pipeline card with "super-pipelining" being used to give each pipeline somwhere in the area of 1.3x the power of a normal pipeline, giving a "virtual 32 pipelines".

Furthermore, i'm hearing very shaky things coming from the direction of a few people very much in the know when it comes to these things and whose opinions are usually never far from reality, and their rumblings seem to suggest tha the R520 may be less than the revolutionary piece of hardware expected (indeed, rather than the DX10 level hardware i was expecting for a long time, im hearing more that the R5210 will probably only be a DX9.0c card).

wow, that far ahead, and only Dx9.0c

How is super pipelining better then regular piplining?

...Does it support more shaders or something of that sort, or more data for each one?

That thing is gonna eat power

The 520 sounds liek its gonna be a hungry onw indeed, the exact number escapes me, but apparently the GPU is going to contain a record number of transistors.

My basic (and basic it is) understanding of Super-pipelining, is that it involves extending the pipeline so that each component section of the pipeline has less work to do, theoretically speeding up the process.
