Hello. This is a major problem! When im using the computer for things other than my favorite game, City of Heroes, after a while I will click, and the screen goes black. Sometimes it happens when a page is loading. Sometimes I am able to restart with control alt delete, but usually I can't and im forced to hit the reset button, which I am almost certain can't be good for my beloved yet buggy cpu. The range of time when it happens can range from the first click I make or to 3 hours of using the computer. I tried reinstalling my video card's drivers but it still did it. My video card is an NVidia Geforce FX 5200. A few months ago I changed from an Nvidia TNT2. The bsod starting happening a few weeks after I installed my new video card/graphics card, you know what I mean. It usually happens around 20 times a day with 18 of them I have to hit the button on my computer. Please help, I have had to type this 3 times now due to bsod. Please respong as soon as possible.
Sounds like you might need a new power supply unit, see if you can borrow one from somewhere to try it out, its a cheap fix if it works since the vid card could be too strong for the system.
List your specs so we know what were dealing with.
Also cpu fan could be defective or covered in dust, take a look if clean then leave case open and put a house fan on it see if system keeps cutting out.
You still have to try the things I mentioned so we can tell or narrow down whats going on, while I'm at it you could also try reinstalling winme. Will probably have to reinstall progs but data, sounds, pics should stay.
Also try unplugging your cdroms completely they too can cause problems see what you get, in other words you have to do trial and error til you get the part thats causing the problems.
Professionals use vacuums all the time.... besides the problem occurred after installing the new vid card. He just needs to follow rangeral's advice, including recleaning the pc. Canned air and a vac would be best.
Hello again. I just did the power supply thingie, and I still black out. ( ) Ok, so I clean all of my fans next? And just a question, is the geek Squad a company that might be able to fix this for me?
