.VXD Eorror
What is it an how do I get rid of it?
-
In Windows systems, a special type of device driver that has direct access to the operating system kernel. This allows them to interact with system and hardware resources at a very low level.
In Windows 95, virtual device drivers are often called VxDs because the filenames end with the .vxd extension.
But how to get rid of it, what exactly does the error message say? Details..

I admit right here an now that all by my little ole self that I crashed the 'puter at work so hard its still in a fog.
Ok Thurs. afternoon I was printing a 19 page Fax an got impatient an decided to check-out a different page{while printing}CRASH.
Compaq 15220{that looks right}AMD K6-2...64MG RAM ...WinFaxPro..
When the first CRASH happened I got a .VXD Blue Screen, rebooted an got about 3 or 4 more Blue Screens with varying .VXD Errors.I shut the 'puter down an rebooted.
To make a long story even longer after an hour an a half I finally got the Faxs printed.
After that the only way I could reboot was in safe mode.So I reinstalled Windows{98} over it self .That helped but the system is still very shakey.Errors when I do something that I just did with no problem.
The question is what are my chances of getting this fixed before the boss gets back on Monday?

I can't really help you, but what has often helped me with VxD problems is to write down the exact error message (blue screen), and then do a search at Microsoft's Advanced Search:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/search/c.asp?SPR= .
Good luck.

There are many .vxd errors - you'll have to write down the exact message like Glytzkhof said. Also, are those error messages giving you a number, like (Error 630) or some such.
Some ideas if you haven't tried them already:
In Safe Mode, look for duplicate entries in Device Manager and remove them.
Have you tried restoring the Registry? Run ScanReg (from Start/Run)to check for registry errors. Not sure if this will work since you reinstalled Win98 and still having problems.
Also could try Run - sfc - to check for alteredcorrupt files to replace from the Win98 disk.
Is TweakUI installed? I've had good luck with this: Go to Repair tab and then Repair System Files. It's worth a try.
You could try another Win98 install.
Try running thorough ScanDisk.
Another MS search http://search.microsoft.com/us/default.asp Click the Support and Knowledge Base and type in VXD.
Good luck.
