Need help with Prt. 13 gig drive

    Hello there,

I need to install a Quantum 13 gig hd on a compaq 4000 deskpro p2 233mmx. The bios only recgnizes 8 gigs. What is the best way to fit this drive? Using fdisk seems I can only get a 8 gig part. and it won't let me do extended partitions.

Any ideas ?<<besides tossing the compaq >>
    thanks LIam

    There are two solutions:

    1. Flash upgrade your bios. That compaq should have an update that will solve the problem. This is by far the best solution.

    2. Obtain a software fix. Most of the drive manufacturers have a program that can be installed that will trick the bios and allow you to see all of the drive. I am not sure about quantum but they probably have such a program. I consider this type of fix a last resort. It will slow down the performance of the computer but it will work.
