I have a unique gamepad. I can use a keymapper to cause my gamepad to send keyboard buttons signals and mouse tracking and buttons. This allows it to work in every game.

I have never had a PC game outside of Terminal Velocity work with my gamepads out of the box. I guess I don't buy the right kind of games.

I am at a loss on this topic.

A gamepad will work for any PC racing game worth its salt. As for First Person Shooter games, they are not meant to be played on a gamepad, they are meant to be played with a keyboard/mouse, so don't be suprised if they don't work with a gamepad.

The latest game I just played for PC that almost MUST be played on a gamepad is Prince of Persia. The controls with a keyboard just don't hold a candle to having dual control sticks and 10 keys that perform all the functions right in reach.

As was said FPS should not be played wtih a gamepad, the controls are awkward and the reaction is too slow in a fast paced game.

Strategy games don't work with gamepads either, mostly because too often you have to scroll over a large field and there are just too many controls (like grabbing 20 units) that just can't be done with a gamepad.

Grand Theft auto however uses a gamepad, any sports game uses a gamepad, most adventure games use a gamepad.

It depends on your genre. If all you play is FPS or strategy games then of course you won't use it much.
