Business Questions...
What do you give as an explanation when a customer asks you why you need to take their computer back to your place to work on it?
I know the answer; I just don’t know how to say it!
-
Because you have all of the software and tools, and can perform backup procedures to the data, in your controlled enviroment.
Honestly though, I have never had a client ask me why, they usually ask when they will get it back

Thanks r8500
The reason I ask is because I'm just getting started and I put a FAQ section on my website. One of the questions is "Do you really need to take my computer out of my house?"
-
Also tell them that you don't know everything, and it would help if you needed to look up something in your reference material.
Honesty goes a long way with customers.

This is pretty much what it says:
Every service is unique in its own way. Even the same services are performed differently from computer to computer and it's impossible to know what exactly will be needed (hardware and software) to complete the service effectively. It's easier, faster, more efficient and cheaper to move one computer to the workshop than to move the entire workshop to one computer. We will come to your home, pick up your computer and drop it back off after the service is completed. Only if your location is greater than 15 miles away there will be a $5.00 trip fee added to final bill.
Thats what I came up with lol... I dont know if I like it though

I also say, leave the money bit out. That way if you have to travell 30miles out of your way you can charge them more than your stated $5.
I note though, that you didn't say anything about most users not being able to find their own bottoms with both hands and that you don't want these twits looking over your shoulder and nattering about how their "computer used to work just fine so it should work now".

I do a lot of consulting and PC repair work, and I much prefer it when I just get the PC dropped off at my place so I can work on it in peace. It also gives me time to trawl through the drives to find anything I can blackmail the owner with which I then save to CD and file away.
Seriously, some of the stuff I've seen on people's PCs is just plain wrong!
