Ghost Not recognizing New 2nd HDD

Ok...I thought I knew my way 'round ghost...guess not.

I have Ghost 2003. I just replaced my old 60GB Maxtor with a new Seagate 80GB.

I moved all data from my old 60GB onto my two raptors in RAID0, then...installed my new 80GB, moved it back.
ON this new 80 GB, I partitioned 60GB for data...the rest (about 14.5 GB formatted) for my latest Ghost image.

I boot into the DOS like Ghost enviornment. I used to boot from the floppy...and to a disk to image. I stored the image of my RAID 0 array onto my other drive, the IDE. Now...Ghost does not see the new Drive, either partitions. I have it marked and labeled the same as the old. D:\ is callled storage.

I created the other partition, (the ghost image partition) and called it Z:\ Ghost.

Can't find anything on Symantec's site...

I know the first time I used the ghost boot disk, it asked me if I wanted to mark the drives as "Active" so I did...now...it doesn't see this new drive.

I always create an image of my RAID 0 array at least monthly, if not more freequent...

    Anyone?

    Oh...and I want to add.

My RAID0 array is a basic disk.

My second hard drive, both partitions are a dynamic...

what filesystem do you use on your
    new harddrive?
i think it might be possible that
    the "DOS like Ghost environment"
    does not support NTFS ?!
I've never been able to use ghost
on a raid 0 system what means i could
    never take an image.
did you ever boot from the ghost cd-rom?
    regards

    NTFS on both drives.

It's version 2003. Older version don't support NTFS cloning to...2003 does.

DOS doesn't support NTFS, but...Ghost does.

I have the CD ROM at work...but, I never use it.
I just removed a 60GB NTFS formatted drive, and put a 60 GB in it's place.

I only use the boot floppy...always works. I still have the old drive, and...for the hey, put it in, and Ghost recognized it and the old images still on it.

    Update:

I did wipe the second drive clean, repartition it and make it a basic disk, rather than a dynamic.

Same goes...Ghost does not recognize it, only the RAID 0 array....

    More help, please??

so the drive is recognized in windows, but not in Ghost? basic versus dynamic definitely helps. Only windows 2k/xp can see dynamic disks. is the drive on a controller card or just the onboard ide?

    Onboard IDE.

Like I said...I had a 60GB...run of the mille IDE maxtor.
I swapped it out with an IDE 80GB Seagate.

Windows is using it like a champ. As a matter of fact, I use a theme from my D:\ Drive and I store my .pst file on my D:\. Once I got done moving it all over, you'd have thought nothing happened at all!

I thought going basic would help...no no...

Strange. Maybe it's time to upgrade to Ghost 9. It can do a backup from within windows. TrueImage is good also.

I think you qualify for an upgrade rebate with ghost 9.

that's just weird. are there any patches or upgrades for Ghost 2003?

I tried...I opened up the GUI of Ghost, and tried live update. It updates automatically with NAV 2005 I have as well.

I was just looking, 50 bucks for Ghost 9.0.

I have Corp Ed. 8.0 or 9.0 at work, volume lisence. Maybe I'll make a boot disk just to try it at home.

Not that I mind spending the money...but, I loved 2003. It read and wrote to NTFS, that was the purchasing desicion for me. I don't need anymore...

I'm gonna keep on checking with Symantec and online. I'll let you know if I find an answer...
    Thanks for the help..

    Not finding anything.
We have corporate edition 8.0 at work.

Tried that...doesn't see the drive, either.

Looking to see if my particular Seagate drive is compatible....

    Well...still no luck.

However, it will write just fine to my DVD +/-R.

So...two DVDs and one hour later, I have a backup again.

    Slow...but, works.

compusa has Ghost9 on sale this week for $9.99 after rebates.

that is really weird. I've never heard of a seagate incompatibility, but there's always a first time. maybe you can exchange the drive? firmware update perhaps?

Good point. I really, really like the drive. Plus...I got it at Best Buy with a gift card.

I paid 89.99...the card had 69 left on it.

And, there was a 20 and 30 dollar rebate.

So...I got a new 80GB drive for nothing, really...

I'll have to look into Ghost 9 for that cheap. Do you know how long that sale is on?

I'll try a firmware update from home. I couldn't find any type of drive compatibility within the symantec site.

Funny...it says Ghost 2003 will not recognize most RAID arrays. Recognizes mine just fine, always has...

    OH...and thanks as always...MK.

The sale is good until saturday, but I'm not sure what the rebate details are.

The only reason I saw that was because I had to get a new UPS.
