    Help setting up X800XT

I am trying to get my X800XT PE set up for the best mix of quality vs performance.

At the moment I have AA at 4X and AF at 8X and quality instead of performance checked. I am using Doom 3 for this test. I am averaging 60 fps with this set up and things are looking pretty good during game play.

Is 60 FPS acceptable? I am using an AMD 2400+ with the FSB cranked to 333. I know I need a better processor and that is the next upgrade.

What do you guys think? 60 FPS acceptable or should I tweak some more?

    Also, any suggestions?

For doom 3, i'd say that is perfect. You could try slowly stepping up the AA and AF until you notice a major slowdown, and then back it off a notch or two from there. But as of right now, all seems well.

Thanks, That is only at high settings but I still think I am doing ok. I haven't tried Ultra High yet but I am happy with high.

I'll go back and crank it to AA and AF to the max and see what happens. I can hardly wait to upgrade the rest of the machine but that can't happen until late spring or early summer.

What resolution are you aiming for? I don't have Doom 3 installed anymore as it was so horrible. 1280x1024 should be any settings (6xAA might not be possible) in everything but possibly FarCry for you as it is the only game I find that is really CPU limited so far. Any higher and it will vary immensely with each game because of the variations in CPU overhead they have. One of the last levels in FarCry I actually use as a baseline starts off with the worst FPS in the whole game (your on foot with Val with a small bridge over a small depression with water, there is a base on the other side which you can somewhat see along with a good bit of vegetation, quite a few mercs, and a gaurd tower). Whatever you can set that to run at, everything else will run at those settings or better.

, Doom 3 was installed just for setting up this card. I really think it stunk up the scene also but it is demanding and a good test for the system and card.

1024 x 768 is where I am at on resolution. That is what I run my monitor at so going higher in games really looks weird. I have trouble reading and viewing pages at anything higher. Old age is setting in.

I think a new athlon 64 and some 3200 ram would help. I am stuck right now with 2700 ram and this old 2400+.

I guess all things come to those who wait but man waiting can be a pain.
