    Samsung Shows Off 512Mb GDDR3

this will probably be huge. plus, this means that even people who dont go SLI can still play Doom3 on the Ultra Quality settings :P

    512MB/8=64MB

    4 of these makes a 256MB card, 8 makes a 512MB card.

I wonder what kind of RAM is on the Matrox 512MB cards? And I wonder who'll start producing with these first?

And with 16 chip card designs, we have 1GB!

More than enough framebuffer to play doom 3 in the ultra setting.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that more than 512MB on a card would be pointless. Can't remember where though.

Thats what they said when we went from 64 mb to 128 then to 256.

BpB always said that 256 MB is pointless and im pretty sure he said 512 is pointless too. which is is it not for anything except for doom3??

I remember what it is now....x86 systems tend to make a copy of the VGA RAM into its own RAM, plus the aperture. So suppose you have a system with 2048MB (2GB) of RAM. Subtract 512MB of RAM for the VGA and 256 for the aperture, and you're down to (2048-768) = 1280MB of useful RAM. Think that's harsh? Sometimes TWO copies are mapped!

Everyone here is right. This is only good for DOOM 3 if you want to use Ultra Quality. I have a Geforce nVIDIA 5700 LE with 256 DDR and I can use Ultra just fine. I think they released this card too early.

My friend watched me post this. He want to know how much it is. Does anyone know?
