very long and hard boot up problem!
I recently bought a 'DiamondMax Plus 9' hard drive, its installed as a secondary hdd. For the first week my computer worked fine, then one day i turned my pc on and it was like the power kept cutting out and turning on.
I removed the 'DiamondMax Plus 9' hdd and the system works, then i unplugged my other hdd and plugged the 'DiamondMax Plus 9' back in, the pc works normally.
So i thought it would be the psu, so i disconnected my cd roms, fans etc, so only both of the hdds had power but it didn't boot.
I checked/changed the IDE cables, even put the hdd on the other IDE channel but nothing. I tired changing it from secondary to primary but nothing again.
I replaced my psu still nothing, it seems that my pc will not boot when both of the hdds have power.
Ive done all the bios updates and nothing seems to work. the only way i can get my pc to boot, is to keep turning it off and back on, usually after 3-4 times i get lucky and it boots
is there a solution

The power switch on the case could have a short or is worn out..

DO you have two operating systems, one on each?

It definitely sounds like a power supply problem...If you have another one available to try, hopefully a PS with higher wattage, try it.

I vote HDD problem.
We are having a heck of a time at work with several Maxtor drives failing every week.
When we send them back to Dell under warranty, they send Western Digital drives as replacements.

no, just my primary hdd has the os.

It could be a BIOS compatibility issue, or maybe a drive problem.
Run the manufacturers' diagnostic utility.

Ditto...
Sterling...are you having issues with two year old 20, 30 and 40GB Maxtors, per chance?
I've RMA'd 2 in the last 2 weeks, the third just expired under warranty...

bummer - I got lots of those Maxtor 40 gig drives as the primary - load the OS there, then let the kids use a big secondary drive for games and music
what mobo and how old?

When you say you tested the HD on another computer, do you mean you phycially placed it in another box and ran the Maxblast utility...or, you just loaded up an OS and it appears to be fine.
You shouldn't have to put the HD in another PC to check it....just boot from the disk...and let 'er rip.
