Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 Series
Hi all!
My laptop refuses to boot - when I power on, I get to the Windows is loading, but then I get this message;
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not
start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might
have caused this."
I then get the regular options about "start normally", "safe mod" etc, but none of the options work. I always end up back at the message above, although first a blue screen appears and the disappears again so fast that I am unable to read the message.
The really frustrating thing, however, is that I am not allowed to do a fresh install from my WinXP cd, although the boot sequence is set to start from the cd-rom.
It's an old pc, I know, but I'd hate to throw it away - could it be hardware-related?
Thanx for all help!

Mod w/ an attitude
You may need to zero format the drive using a floppy or bootable CD.

Hi Sterling!
Thank you for your fast reply!
Could you please explain in more details how to do a zero format from a floppy disk or, preferrably, a bootable cd.
I did manage to get into the bios settings, and specified the cd-rom as first boot device. After having saved the settings and restarted, I still ended up at the "we are sorry for the inconvenience"-message - even though the WinXp cd was in the cd-rom.
I assume that my winXP disk is a bootable disk - but could you also provide info regarding how to make a bootable floppy?
Thank you for you time!
