    Using System Restore

If I use System Restore to get back my earlier working networking settings, does this only affect OS changes or will it also affect data you have put on the desktop and updates to databases etc?

It should only affect OS changes, not files and folder updates. If I recall correctly, it says that when you start the restore wizard.

Data will be as it currently is. OS changes are what you are restoring back, it may affect desktop icons or Start menu choices but those are minor. If you did install apps after the restore point you choose you may want to reinstall them after the restore so that the registtry entries are neat and tidy!

On a side note, there's a program called "GoBack" by roxio that makes Restore look like something from the dark ages. Check it out. I don't have a link because someone gave me a copy.
