Which would you keep, 1.6P4 or 1GTbird

For backup rig need to divest myself of 3rd pc.

One is a compaq mobo in custom black case, 1.6 p4 with 768 pc133 sdram, onboard sound (but have fortissimo gamesurround) and AIW ATI 7500.

The other is ECS K7S5A with AMD Athlon Thunderbird at 133/133, 512 ddr 2100 memory, onboard sound and same video card as above. Both have 80 gig 8mb cache WD 7200 hard drives, DVD rom and cdrw.

Which would be the better to keep? I sort of grew to like the ECS, and it has more upgrade potential due to the ddr and socket a.It would require a new chip though for more speed, I do have a XP2200+ which I could use, at 1.8 gig, but I would then need to replace that chip (with fastest xp still available, no sempron for me).

If there were a compelling reason to keep P4 then I would sell the ecs with the 1 gig tbird, keep the 2200 in other machine. The p4 does have its own compaq XP pro restore disc, but I would then need to purchase xp for the ecs.

Is a 1.6 p4 able to handle voice recognition program? How about video editing?

I voted ECS. It just seems to be a better system with the potential of upgrades.

i would go with the compaq .16 and the take out the 80 from the 1.0 and put it in the 1.6ghz just swap parts and make the compaq better,, slo you can buy up to a P42.4A fsb400mhz ,becuase a p4 is a p4

I would be careful when you say that. I have a board made by Intel. I can not support all Intel processors. Specifically the E series. My board revision is not new enough. Each P4 family has different benefits and drawbacks.

If a user has an old P4 board it will not supprot the new families even though they plug in.

The C series and E series P4's are my favorites.

The AMD is very upgradeable too. The socket A makes it possible to make the AMD system faster than the Intel with little money and effort. I am an avid Intel user, but I think AMD has a lot of benefits to offer too.

i will be clear a board with a 400fsb can use any p4 in the 400fsb group which is up to 2.4A ghz

If the p4 board is a socket 423 board go with the AMD setup.

I would keep the AMD as well. Your room for upgrades with the other is much smaller.

Any use for pci AIW crossedup? At present want to keep the AGP, if on sale buyer doesnot want it I will pm ya.

I do have some hesitation to keep the Ecs, am hearing more people having their agp slot checking out. Thats my concern, that over time, the quality (or lack therof) of this pchetz red headed stepchild will bite back...
For some reason I just feel that the intel board on the 1.6 might have a little more longevity. I do temd to keep (some) of my pc for a good number of years, ie still have a '98 asus p5ab/k62 500.

I would keep the one with all the OS disks.
Why dump $$ in a backup.

And when you built the BEAST machine we all do
from time to time.

The P4 will have more $ale$ appeal locally if not among the
GEEKS.
