How do I show you this?

Looking to free up some free space on my hard drive. Did a search for all files with:

    *.tmp

    *.bak

    *.log

    *.-

    *.old

and got back 537 results. However, don't know which I CAN and CAN'T remove. Would love to post results here so someone can tell me Yes or No. Tried highlighting and copy, but didn't work. Any idea how to do this?

PLEASE don't show us...Generically speaking all of them can "probably" go. Then again they probably aren't taking up that much space.

When in doubt, move em to a new location. If all goes well for a week or so then ya can zap em.

    Ha . Ok, fair enough.

How and where do I move them to?

How and where do I create a new folder? Sorry, wish I was more tech savvy.

You can create the new folder anywhere you want, here's how to do it: http://www.newbie.org/essentials/essnt014.html
However, there is one thing to beware; if you move a file that later on is needed (I doubt it, considering the extensions you posted) you'll have to remember where it was originally so you can restore it - how are you going to do that for 500 files?
There are applications that do it for you: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0....space&tg=dl-20

    Thanks.

Is there anyway to take the Search results and make THAT a file?

you could just use the recycle bin

(delete the files, they go automaticly to the recycle bin, on the slim chance that any of the files you memtioned are still needed by the system you go into the recycle bin and restore the file).

or you could use the disk cleanup wizard

(right click the disk in MyComputer, select properties, click the "Disk Cleanup" button).

just one question and please excuse me for being rude, How do you know about things like bak files and wildcards but not how to make a folder or move files?
The little voices don't talk to me, they argue with each other.

    Sorry for my spelling

Under the heading of "Monkey see, Monkey do", I found it in an article about how to clean up your hard drive. Have no idea what it means, but I DO know how to type

If you don't know what files to delete and why then don't. It will only lead to more trouble. Add more space instead. Get a big fat extra drive and learn how to do a proper backup while you are at it.
