Its not really a "security risk"...its just doing what it does reall well, searching for data on a computer. If you are using it just on your home computer, you don't have anything to worry about. In addition, you can specify directories/drives that it will not search, so if installed on a shared computer in a public place, any security problems can easily be fixed.
I installed it, and it works like a charm.

I guess that's what beta software is for - ironing out the kinks!
Having said that, It's not a tool I would use anyway, much like their Toolbar.

I for one, like the Google Toolbar, but I
don't want the new search feature which'will search my hard drive.

erm, what's wrong with windows find?

windows find takes me 3 mins to find a particular mp3, google desktop search takes 0.13 seconds.
