Stick with the xp chips. The fastest processor you can put in the board is the 3200+. I don’t know if I would suggest upgrading your cpu, unless you go with a 3200+. Even then I don’t know if the performance would justify the price. You might want to look into the 3000+ with the 400fsb. It seems like a decent price to performance ratio. Are you into oc’in at all?

As mentioned, the 3000+ with the 400Mhz FSB is the only way to go. Anything else wouldn't justify the cost. Unless you can still get good money for your 2400+. I've had a handful of processors go in and out of my hands in the last year or so. I'e played with a 1700, 2000, 2400, 2600, and a 3000. The only time I could actually see a difference is going from the 1700 to the 2400 and again from the 2400 to the 3000. the jump from the 1700 to the 2400 only yeilded noticeable results in seti results and divx encodes. It didn't improve day to day tasks one bit. The same can be said for the jump to the 3000.

So in closing, unless you're planning on doing some high end computing, stick with the 2400. But if you've got your mind made up on an upgrade, get the 3000.

Or you could try overclocking the 2400+ you should be able to get it to 2800+ with little trouble. I think the only upgrade that would really be worthwhile and a appreciable difference in performance would be an Athlon64, but that means new board as well.
