invalid alignment was specified (cd/rw)
the system is a compaq presario 5726, 500mhz 320mb ram, 13gb hdd. having some problems with adding new cd/rw. i can put in a data cd and it reads fine, when i put in a music cd i get the error "an invalid alignment was specified". this is replacing a dvd player that came with the pc, and it did the same thing. i actually tried leaving the dvd player in and adding the cd/rw, then the cd/rw worked with music cds, but the darn dvd player would not read anything. i tried switching master/slave in every configuration (cables, leaving jumpers alone, then changing the jumpers trying and then switching the jumpers) the last thing i did was pull the dvd player and put the cd/rw on cable select. btw, the primary ide channel ribbon has a place for 3 devices which is attached only to the hdd. but the original configeration was (and now is) pri ide master = hdd, and sec ide master = dvd, slave = zip drive. the zip drive shows up under scsi devices in device manager with a "!". could this be part of the problem?
I would be greatful for any help
Thank you ~Paul

Gone Fishin'
Did you load all the software that came with the drive? Did you disable any startup programs that are associated with the drive? Set the jumpers according to the installation instructions and make sure any other devices on the same ide channel are jumpered correctly. Some HDs have separate jumper settings for master and master w/slave. It sounds more like a driver or software issue. Programs like INCD won't run right if you disable the startup apps.
Oh, and pull the zip drive until you get it sorted. Install that last just to be sure that's not causing a conflict. That exclaimation point means the driver is not loaded correctly or is the wrong driver for that OS.
