i dont think that. i think, it will take at öleast 2 1/2 years, until they break 20k.
@dashpig: your score is much too low. you have only have the score of a 9800pro, but there should not be such a great difference between a 9700pro and a 9800pro.
Memory ? I think it's only 2100 speed (some generic brand, nothing special)
old Bios on M/board ? it's v1.06 Beta something or another
I'm on the latest 4.9 Catalyst from ATI and running XP SP2 (probably makes no difference though ?)
I have noticed that whenever snapshots are taken of the AGP speed it always says 4X rather than 8X - is 8X invoked automatically by the card when needed ?
Dumb question time - how do i go about turning v-sync off pls ? Not sure i understand about this function.
AA & AF are both set for "Let the app decide" and at the performance end of the scale in the ATI Control Centre panel.
I've just rebooted, and managed to get a couple of "Out of memory errors" while it was loading up the Forest scene
3rd time it ran at between 0-1 fps, then completely locked up at about frame 14 i think it was.
To me your score sounds pretty normal for your system. How fast is the RAM you have? And have you made sure of all the normal things like scanning for adware/spyware/anything else that will take up precious clock cycles? Don't worry about the CPU tests either, the Athlon XP crowd seems to be hovering around 2-0 fps in them.
Turn off vsync in your display control panel. When you right-click on your desktop, click properties, then click settings, and advanced and you will see the option on one of those tabs. As MrBurns suggested, make sure AA/AF is turned off and slide everything to "performance" instead of "quality" to get the most out of it. You could also try upgrading to the latest Cat drivers too.
I agee that the score looks to be in the right ballpark. The memory is quite slow, and the 9700pro is considerably weaker than the 9800pro (which you see a lot of benchmarks from).

I'm going to get the latest ATI drivers and enable my Dynamic Overclocking. But if what I'm reading is correct overclocking the cpu may not make any real difference.

Just a quick post to say thanks to MJC and Magua for their replies for putting my mind at rather more ease.
I'm normally really hot on getting rid of Adware stuff etc so that's covered ok, as for the Vsync can't fnd a setting for that - but hey just how bothered am I ??? hmmm not too much sounds like my system will never set the world alight, and it runs everything (hmm apart from Far Cry actually thinking about it) that i need it to pretty quickly, so i'm happy

Thx again
farcry should run on your system. the demo even runs fluid w/ my gf4 ti 4600 @ 1024x768. so you problem w/ far cry sure is not, that your gpu is too weak. it probably is a software problem.
you should start a thread about this in the games section, because it will probably cause a long discussion, and this thread is for 3dmark05 scores.
