Graphics Aperture Size...
Hey, just wondering, what is the Graphics Aperture Size and what does it do? I've got a 256mb card and so I've got it set at 256mb, but D3 was crashing so I looked on id's support site and it said to lower it to 64mb. That just kinda confused me so I figured I'd ask. Thanks.

Generally you should set it to half your system RAM, however you may find a different setting that works better for you.

i generally got better performance in the likes of doom3 and far cry when I raised it to 256. Most games it doesnt really matter...but if you got 1Gb of RAM then i would set it at 256Mb. 512 the go for 128...play about with it and see if it makes any difference. The more RAM a game takes up...the more it should benefit with a higher setting.

Generally it's got very little impact on performance or stability, though obviously you dont want to set it extremely high or extremely low. Generally speaking 128mb is regard4ed as the standard for current systems, though i personally find 256mb to improve performance in a few particular instances such as Far Cry

OK, thanks guys, now I understand what it's for. Kinda like Page File on Windows in a way. I set it down to 128mb and I'll see if any games show a noticable drop in preformance, and if they do I'll raise it back up to 256mb.

Yup, aperture size set to 256 made my PC play Doom 3 at ultra settings.

Qvark, you got 2gb of RAM? I heard that if you have a GeForce 6800GT or Ultra and 2gb of RAM you can play on Ultra Detail levels with little problems. I've only got 512mb right now, but I'm gonna get another 512mb and go dual channel, hoping I'll get a major preformance boost from that.

Hooya!
The rule is to set it at half of the memory size...which would be 128 for you ...
I had mine set ( original bios settings ) at 64 for the longest time ...and wondered about this myself...
Now I have it on 256 and i have 1024 MB of memory ...and it works just great....
