On file deletion in explorer system hangs

Each time I attempt to delete a file in explorer or from a file folder on my desktop the system hangs and will not recover until I end the task in task manager. I can delete file through the command prompt screen without problem. My o/s is Windows Home Edition 2002 - SP2.

When did this start? Have you tried System Restore?

    Try disabling your Antivirus.

Watch your language and justify your opinion. I use XP Home and I love it.

I disabled both On-access scan and E-mail scan in my McAfee Enterprise 7.0.0 antvirus as you suggested however, this did not solve the problem. It started in the last couple months but I am not certain when. I have not attempted to restore my system and do not think this would help as the problem has now been around too long.

    Any other thoughts...???

Try holding the SHIFT key while deleting to see if it makes any difference. *** This will bypass the recycle bin.***

Did any of the afformentioned tips help? Is this a specif file/folder or is it "any" file/folder? You do have Admin rights to the PC you are on correct?
