But when you do compare the software, you'd still be pretty insane to choose a mac.
Just about everything for mac is available for PC, but just about nothing for the PC is available for the mac.
Apple believe that people will pay for innovation, and they aren't too far off the mark, but their innovativeness has diminished somewhat over the past 3 years with the exception of the iPod.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they eventually quit making PCs alltogether and stick to what they really are good at, cool peripherals.

AMD or MAC
Well as a builder and seller of computers I have built 4 Athlon64 FX53's and have used both msi and asus boards and the GeForce6800 ultra video cards.
Yes basically a gaming computer but intestingly enough they do a wonderful job on graphics crunching.
And 2 of these are replacing G5's that had bad glitches and never really worked right and had to be returned to Apple,,, for replacement not repair.
One fella told the dealer to load him up with ipods instead of returning a new computer. We pulled all his files with a neat little program a buddy of mine wrote to convert apple stored to pc storage at the store and the dealer really kissed *** with Will (the owner )as if he returns stuff he looses money so if he simply swapped out for ipods he doesnt lose money.
Go figure.
So far Will has never had problem with new pc and his G4 just went down with terminal motherboard fault (my little bore scope tells me Apple has had capacitor problems too) similar to my entry level units with Soltek and Gigabyte boards.Gigabyte fixed last one ,Soltek wont so I went and bought new ones to fix the board. And lo and behold I went to get some solder wick and the shelf above my head held something interesting, High temp caps ! The old caps had 85 degree rating at .38 cents each the new ones are rated at 105 degrees at 1.98 each. HMM any wonder why they used the cheapies. The MSI and ASUS boards are all built (so far) with high temp caps. OH and the Solteck never would clock up right so I also looked at regulators protected by the caps and 2 were not double duty so back i went and another 12 dollars and it will rock and ruin and since I had reflashed the bios with newer board bios it even clocks higher than the original spec.
