    Fatal Exception oe error

Here we go again. Just did a reinstall of Windows 98SE on my Pentium III System, reinstall works fine until such time as I install the drivers for my Soundblasterlive 5.1 (Value) card. After I install this card I kep getting a 'Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 028:C1547B2B in VXD EMU10K1(01)+0000B71B' error message, specifically on boot up. Checked the Microsoft site and installed a patch that they recommended and which seemed appropriate. Nothing has changed, same problem. Click on 'My Computer', 'Control Panel',' Add/remove Programs', Fatal exception orror message on the blue scren comes up again, click any key to continue, and so it goes on and on and on. Funny thing is that the sound card works and if you are actualy using the device (playing a cd) you don't sem to get the Fatl Exception error messages!!

    Any ideas her guys?

This is an old problem. You need a new version of the emu10k1.vxd file which you will find in Windows\System. It comes with the latest Live drivers from Creative or you can also get it here:

    http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/30/30781.htm

Rename the old file to emu10k1.old and copy the new version into the System folder.

Make sure you have all your Windows updates, particularly the Virtual Machine update.

EDIT: On second thought, that driver at drivers.com looks a little light. Try to get the one from Creative.

    http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

It will be an executable file.

Ok, I'll give it a go. Just a thought, I must have reformatted and reinstalled wiwndows 98 on this system 2 or 3 times in the past 4 years, I don't remember having a problem of this nature on previous reinstallations.

The old drivers did not necessarily react this way unless they had to share facilities with certain other drivers, so there must have been an upgrade somewhere along the line.
    Thanks for the feedback.
