I use the Zalman CNPS-7000Alcu on my 3400+, and I used it on my old 3200+ and I overclocked that to 2.4Ghz. Just make sure it is the all copper one

I've been using a thermaltake Venus 12 since I got my 3200, temps get to 42C under full load (with my case fans up full) but usually sits at under 36C.
I've never had any trouble with thermaltake except the hi-med-low switches they used with a couple of the volcano fans, I now just use the thermal probe under the CPU to adjust the fan speed.

I also stuck a fan grill on top of the cooler, I don't fancy any cables getting sliced
