NTFS file system failure.

Windows decided it did not like the file system on a slave backup drive and decided to fix it. When it was done, the second of two partitons on the drive is recognized by windows but says drive is not formatted. What happened to the data? Nothing else has been written to the drive. Is it possible to recover the data or repair the lost format?

Thanks, Midknyte. I'll check these out. I sure wish I knew why it happened. The drive hasn't been accessed since before my troubles with SP2.

The one from snap files found the filenames and sizes but could not restore anyof them. PC inspecter couldn't even find and lost files and I didn't try the last one. I switched to NTFS on all the drives just to see the difference. Next time I'll stick to fat 32 with XP.

That's why i don't use NTFS as well.
Is so hard to recover lost files, and partitions in case of screw ups

Which ever program files the files and can recover, this is the one to purchase. If you do not one to buy either of these two excellent data recovery solutions, you may as well accept the data is gone.

90% of my lost files were backed up and those that weren't were not all that important. I did buy a niffty application that makes it very easy to backup critical files. Better then any others I've tried.

It works accross a network or between drives.

SysSync looks a nice app. Nice price too.

There is also FolderMatch at www.foldermatch.com that does the same, and may be more (I use this).

Upgrades are lifetime free and there’s a special deal if you go with their cloning program FolderClone www.folderclone.com (I have this) (all can be found from the homepage www.saltybrine.com) too.

There will be freeware around, but it is sometimes worth going with a shareware alternative that gives free lifetime upgrades. The user gets a sound solution and it doesn’t cost anymore. This is what I tend to do nowadays: support the shareware movement by going with developers that are generous by offering free lifetime upgrades.
