Removing ALL traces of AOL from the PC
Im trying to install AOL on a WIN98SE system that has an old version from a past user. I did the usual "Remove Programs" but there must be sufficient registry entries remaining that prevent the new load.
How do I completely remove ALL traces???

I would search in the registry for AOL or america online and delete all entries (backup up the registry first)

Unless you insalled it with an install guard activated, with the older versions and win98 you really need to reload the OS with a clean install, which is not a bad idea every year or so anyway.

Just incase you didnt know RLT65, if you're going to go through the reg, you dont have to do it manually Just incase you didnt know its Ctrl + F

Well I bit the bullet and attacked AOL with Regedit. **** if it didnt work just fine!
A simple "find" didnt work as the key name had AOL imbedded in many different configs as well as upper/lower cases all mixed in.

So you got rid of it all then?

Another part of AOL to look for, AIM, the instant messenger part, it's all over the place

They got stuff on there that sucks like a wino with a bottle of Ripple and sticks like a catfish to it's skin. Worse then that, its buried so deep that even Dubbya couldn't get it out with a bunker buster.

Take this advice with a grain of salt. But I believe if you install 98 overtop of itself, it rewrites the registry. Ask someone first, but that might get the AOL out of your registry.

That's not going to work either. When you run the setup program it only fixes broken links and replaces missing files. It doesn't even check for corrupt files.
