    Hard Drive Heatsink MOD.

I had an extra 80GB seagte PATA 7200 drive. I Also happen to have $100+ of heatsinks, fans, thermal paste, thermal tape, AS4&5

The normal temps of this this drive used to be around 42-45. This got me thinking why not try and reduce the temps? I used 3 heatsinks without any fan and some thermal tape.
I stuck the 3 heatsinks onto the harddrive using thermal tape. This made the drive real heavy.

2 of the heatsinks were of Coolmasters the other was a generic brand.

The results were pretty good. After after installing the heatsinks tems have gone down a bit. Now the temps stay between 34-36C. Nothing more.

Here are a couple of pics of the drive with the heatsiinks attached. I used a real low end stuupidd Video cam. Kodak DVC 320

Sounds interesting but the pics are hardly discernable.

Rig up a case fan to blow over them, maybe that will drop it a few more.

My temps matched yours after I did my "mod".

    Antec Sonata,
put a vantec stealth (120mm fan) to pull air away from the hard drive (blow air into the case) - can't hear this fan over PSU fan.

    temps before

    44-47

    now
    34-35

and thats for three (3) hard drives.
