AMD athlon xp 2000+, but...
when I start up my PC, it says Athon Uknown 1250???
How do I get it to recognize the cpu for what it actually is? Hmm...this happened once to me, but I completely forgot how I fixed it...

Try Sandra or AIDA 32 one ofthese will tell you exactly what is going on with your cpu. I had a bad xp1800 that showed as an unknown cpu no what the fsb was set as.

Aznmask, thats because your cpu is a mobile. If it was the desktop Barton core, then it would appear as an AMD 3200+ (2400mhz).
My desktop 2500+ oc'd shows as an AMD 3200+ (2300mhz).

Gone Fishin'
The Athlon 2000+ is not a Barton. FSB should be set to 133 ( which times 2 is 266). Ram should be set the same if it is at least PC133 or PC2100.

Check you motherboard manual there may be a jumper setting on the motherboard, incase the BIOS doesn't allow you to change it.
My friend had an asusTek A7N266-VM motherboard with XP 2000+ cpu, asus had provided the wrong jumper settings in their manual, as well as the motherboard shipped according to the wrong settings. As a result the BIOS always detected it as 1250.
The BIOS didn't allow to change the FSB settings, so we had to look for the specific jumper settings on the motherboard.
Yours is now set at 100.It should be set at 133.

Yeah, you don't want to be setting the FSB to 166. That'll give you a 333Mhz FSB. You need to set it to a 133 for your processor.

Fixed. thanks, guys. I set it to 133/133
