i have no idea what's going on here..... bought a new lcd monitor and trying to get to www.onrebate.com to register the rebate. when i try to get there using IE i get the 'dial up' pop-up (i have it set to 'dial when no network connection present' or whatever that setting is) if i hit 'connect' it tries to dial but the modem doesn't actually dial. if i try to go anywhere else in Ie after that i have to hit 'connect' and i'm back up and running (this site is loading way faster than usual too....)
if i try to go to this site using mozilla it's almost the same thing but i get the 'broadband' login screen instead.
my friend say he can get on that site no problem. but when i try it i seem to lose my connection for some reason.
i am fully updated as far as windows updates, my norton antivirus is updated and finds nothing and have scanned with 3 different ad-ware/spyware scanners and found nothing as well.
any ideas? my email works no problem at all through this, and the cable modem stays connected too so i'm really confused!
i tried shutting off zonealarm as well in case some of the settings were blocking the site somehow but it does the same thing!

i used to keep it on 'never dial a connection' but i seem to be having mysterious connection problems lately so i changed it.
right now my connection seems to work fine (great even) except for going to the rebate site. if my buddy told me he couldn't get on either then i would have thought it was the site but it seems to be my computer that can't get on.
oh yeah, when i switch to my wifes XP account and try the same thing i get a 'dns' error for that site and i don't lose the connection, but can go anywhere else. just freakin strange!
edit for spelling

So I suppose you're mainly using the cable account, correct? Reset your internet connection: on IE, Tools menu -> Internet Options -> Connections pane -> press the Setup button. Follow the instructions on how to setup a LAN internet connection. If the cable service fails, you can later on configure IE to use the dial up account.
hmmm. deleted all of my dial-up connections and set IE to 'never dial a connection'.\, also got rid of my 'Broadband' networkl place that was always 'disabled' anyways.
all that is left is the 'Local Area Connection' icon. i am still connected. now this site loads sloooooowww (could just be the kid next door downloading music again, that's what i hate about this stuff, in the time it takes to troubleshoot stuff, 10 things have changed and you have no idea if you did something or it could just be the connection is 'slow' now )
and when i try the www.onrebate.com site i don't lose the connection, but get the 'we can't find this site' screen.
i am not crazy right? the site does exist and other people can get on it?

i left the net adapters, just deleted the dial-up settings.
so why can't i get on this site? even with everything turned off (zone alarm, NAV etc.... ).
christ if i have to i'll go to work and get my laptop and try it instead (i'm on vacation) if that works then i'll just take this pc out back and shoot it!
