    Help!!!

Today when I tried to install a new winxp(Chinese version), I have encountered a problem. When the setup finished formatting my hard-disk, it said "hivecls.inf no1807 has been damaged" and the windows setup cannot continue.

What does that mean and what can I do, I have tried a number of methods to rectify the problem, but failed. Is that because of my hard-disk?

    Please help and advise

    Thanks a lot

The darned page wouldn't reload and I couldn't tell if my post "took" or not, so I clicked again - and again - and again and then I really machine-gunned it!

"Chinese version" is a sure tip. I don't think that there is a single legitimate copy of Windows XP west of Yokohama.

I read yesterday that MS is working on a Chinese version. It won't have English support though. That should make the Commie censors happy.

...or you could dip the CD in "duck sauce" first, then reboot from CD...works evry time.

From someone who actually knows about computers, I'd say your drive is too old to read burned cd's. Sounds stupid right? well if your drive is older, and it is a burned cd (am I 2 out of 2 so far).... Then I think I'm right

I've had backup copies of XP that boot to the install program and then give a similar file not found error. Some drives can read the burned cds but for some reason also do this.

And for those idiots out there, Yes I am running my own copy of XP Professional OEM and it cost 127.96$US shipped to my door from my good(new) friend at ebay.

Idiots? Yeah - and welcome to SysOpt to you too. Pleasant way to kick things off.

I imagine that you are actually trying to say that you have a unique product key. Maybe that's what you should have said in the first place.

I was wondering how long it was going to take. Not long was my prediction.
