    i've got a question about g-mail...

what's to prevent people from registering a bunch of g-mail accounts and using their 1gb storage space for "less than legal" purposes (e.g. file transferring, etc.) It would seem to me that the large space for each account could only be taken advantage of by the warez community...

I'd guess there is some "fine print" as to how much and what king of activity they'll allow.

I would be offended if someone gave me a Google, Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail account. The Yahoo account is said to be 24 GB! Now you have to ask yourself why would they want to give you that kind of space? You don't suppose they want to monitor your mail to find out who is buying what and where so they could sell advertisement targeting to another spam mill? Sure maybe you don't care but in the end the consumer pays for all the advertising and the plague of e-mail that has made e-mail a hostile environment. I have recently cut down on e-mail as a source of communication with my family and friends. I simply don't have time to weed out the junk anymore just to read about aunt Emma's liposuction gone bad only to discover that she has forwarded my e-mail address to another 20 million spam mills. I am also more and more concerned about the lack of privacy these services insist on forcing on you if you participate. It's like saying go ahead, tap my phone and post every word on the world wide web. From now on, let them pay if they want to talk to me. They will appreciate it more. I would gladly subscribe to a pay for e-mail service if they charged every spammer a fee to e-mail me. I have been paying for long distance phone calls and postage for years. It is a much better system. In the end nothing is free.

BTW... I just edited this post because a word I used as a descripter, and is not in the least bit considered foul language was edited by an ignorant machine to make it look as if I was swearing. Wonderful program you have here.

Yes, I read it wrong, they were offering 25 times the storage that they did, but that too has changed. Read this.....http://www.dmeurope.com/default.asp?ArticleID=2077

I guess they figured they wouldn't have as much as Google and MSN to sell in the great email milking war.

Now what are we going to be led to believe?

probably nothing, apart from the fact I'd imagine it's slow as HELL to do so.

gmail is DESIGNED to target adverts at you based on your email contents.

Anyone who supports gmail supports spyware, because that's effectively what it is.
