    Dead Laptop

    Dell Latitude running Win2K

Laptop running fine this morning. Associate locked the machine and went to meeting. Came back and the computer was off. Removed laptop from docking station to see if it was the laptop or docking station. I checked battery and it has all 5 led's green. Checked power cord connection and it is ok. Tried removing battery and running off power cord with no luck. Tried running off battery only no luck.
When you press the power button system comes on for about 2 seconcs and then shuts down.

Is this one a dell support call??

    Thanks guys.

sounds like a cpu or motherboard issue. you can try reseating the ram, but there's not much else you can really do without parts.

Midknyte - Dell had me try that as well. Tech thinks it is a heat issue as well. He is sending someone to replace the motherboard, CPU & fan and memory tomorrow. I will let you know what the tech says.

If they are replacing all of that, then there is almost no way that it won't work when they are done.

I just had the same thing the other day at work with a Dell Lattitude C640.

I called Dell and after a 30 min. diagnistics, they decided to send me a system board and CPU. It took me 2 hours to replace them and the system is running perfectly now.

No, I am not Dell certified yet but my company is. It isn't as hard as you may think.
