Installing win2000 issue
Hey peeps,
I have a friend who is trying to re-install win2000 on a compaq. He is booting from CD when he receives the following message:
File acpi.sys caused an unexpected error (34934) at line 4244 in D:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\setup.c.
Can anyone shed some light on this message? Thanks in advance

Why is he reinstalling? What went wrong?

If it is not the original Compaq OEM version of W2K, then acpi.sys may be having trouble recognizing some proprietary piece of hardware.

is this a system restore or a plain Win2K cd? the system restore partition on some compaqs can mess up non-restore installations. I've seen this a bunch of times with people trying to upgrade to xp pro. you should try zapping the drive first, then install win2k. be forewarned that zap will kill the restore partition.

Actually after taking a look at it myself, its the cd itself which is the culprit. Its locking up in setup about 1-2 min into it. And by the look of the disc, its not in the best of shape. I'm gonna have to grab my stuff and see if I can get through setup.
How things change when you get to see the carnage first hand.
