    ie7 cant get menu bar

I've just upgraded a laptop to IE7 and all works ok, but the menu bar is not there and I cant get it. when I right-click in the menu area and check the menu bar item in the list, the checkmark shows, but no menu bar comes up. When I first got the computer turned on, it had IE6 and an AOL toolbar, which I removed. Help, Please...
    thanks.

    Your way should work....

You should see a button called TOOLS on the upper right hand side of the screen.

Click on it and select Menu bar.

Thanks for that....I forgot to list in my post that I tried that also after it did not work using the right-click. In the tools list, it showed the menu checked, so I tried to uncheck it and recheck it...but it would not "uncheck," and still no menu bar.

IE7 does not have a Menu Bar .. see below taken from MSDN

The menu bar is not displayed by default in IE7, its redundant replaced by the command bar. The user can choose to display it or not. In IE6 there was no UI feature to turn off the menu bar.

menubar="no" means hide the menu bar where as menubar=yes or no menubar directive means do nothing to the menubar (which in IE6 implied display it)

IE7 continues this menubar=no hide a menubar any thing else do nothing approach, IOW menubar=no means 'attempt to hide the menubar' and 'menubar=yes means menubar at users discretion'.

So the answer to your question is no you can't force IE7 to display the menu bar. Your only option is toolbar=yes, that will always show the command bar which has all the features that the menu bar has, unfortunately it shows all the other toolbars the user has selected as well. Its a pity IE7 didn't add a commandbar=yes feature.

You can fix it with this program: (said to be very good at customizing IE7 & IE8)

Also you can use the file here: force IE7's menu bar to the Top

It's a good idea to unlock the toolbar and look for the telltale double chevrons or dotted line. The Menu Bar may be off to the side.

Which version of IE7 do you have?

Version 7.0.5730.13 has the menu bar on by default.

I did unlock the toolbar and after some more tweaks that were sort of random, I noticed that the menu bar had become unchecked. I checked it again and the menu bar came back! I believe that it was indeed hidden behind or way off to the side somewhere. Anyway, problem is soved. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
