leaving PCs on all the time y/n?
Do you guys leave your home PC's on all the time or shut them down at night / when at work? I tend to shut mine down unless I'm on a big download. It's probably better for the circuits to stay up all the time since most electronics fail on powerup. Shutting down may save some cash on your electric bill though.
What do you think?

It's basically a personal preference but I shutdown my computers at night (and anytime no one will be using them for more than a few hours). Easy enough to re-start them...
Good luck!

I use to leave them on all the time, but with electrity prices so high here in California, and now that we're starting to warm up and use our AC more, I now shut them off at night. The only one I leave on is my win2k server box becuase its acting as my DHCP server as well as a few other things. Its power requirments are very modest compared to my main rig.

Ive got between 6 and 8 running 24/7. Monitors are all set to turn off within 10 minutes.
I have seen little differance in my electric bill compared to a year ago when i had 2 going.

Hail to the Victors
Turn mine off...but, at night, I watch cable TV on it...so, If I doze off, usually I'll wakey up in the mid of the night to shut it off, or...wait till morning...
Either way...no big deal.
Only other thing, you leave it on all the time, might want to clean out the dust bunnies more often, since the fans are pulling air 24/7...
just a thought...

takes mine less that 30 seconds to start up and get going.
I turn mine off everynight and I don't turn it off till I come back from work, some days I dont use it (since I got a PS2 anyway) there is simply no need for me to waste energy. Power Bills or not, I still shouldn't waste energy.

I leave mine on, unless I know I won't be using it for awhile...

I turn mine off when I'm not going to use it for more than 4 or 5 hours. The reasons are:
1) It heats up the room
2) If someone would break in the house, they could get in my system.
3) If someone would hack in, I would not notice it.
4) Should a fan or other problem come up in the computer, a fire could result or it could cause other problems.
5) Energy Usage - If you have 2 hard drives, and miscelenous other things in the computer, this will add up over time. If you computer has a 250 watt power supply, and your maxing out your power suppy, which would be like running two 125 watt light bulbs all the time or less.
