Sticky didnt help Cant get XP & 98SE to talk
I tried the list on the painless Network and might have got myself even deeper in doo doo.
Synopsis: Had 2 98SE PC's working just fine; no problem accessing each other or the Internet.
Upgraded one to XP Pro. It sees the 98 hard drive but gets "access denied"
The 98SE machine does not see the XP machine at all. Both access the Internet fine.
Both have WORKGROUPS as the network name.
Both have drive C shared as well as file and printer sharing on under Network in Control Panel
Config is both are connected to a switch which is then connected to a router in a different building thru Cat5e. This has always been a solid setup.
When using the XP wizard on the 98SE machine WHICH option do I use? Connected thru a resedential gateway or thru a hub? Is a hub the same as a router?
Following the Sticky link to Painless Networks I added the NetBios & IPX/SPX stuff. However if I disable TCP/IP then I cant connect to the Internet.
How do I fix this; start from scratch or what???
***HELP***

Stark Raving MOD
you need to use the same username and password. nt based OSes require authentication.

Make sure the wizard didn't enable XP's firewall.
Quick Guide to XP Simple File Sharing
You only need TCP/IP.

OK, its working.
Did the same name and password thing.
Then dug my feet in and started learning XP and reading lots of stuff on here and elsewhere.
This forum rules when it comes to getting quick and good answers, thanks.
