    GF FX5900 model questions

As far as I can tell there are 3?

    128MB SE about $180
    128MB regular about ???
    256MB regular about $272

I am having trouble finding 128 MB regular cards. It seems like everyone is trying to pass off 128SE (slower mem I guess) cards as regular 128mb cards? So what is a good price for a REGULAR 128mb 5900?

GAINWARD FX POWERPACK! FX 5900 128MB RETAIL = $225 USD shipped.

BUT -- You can get this for less and it's a better card...

    SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -RETAIL = $219 USD shipped.

    Good luck!

The 5900SE or XT is actually a pretty decent card. The memory is at a slower clock rate, but lower latency. 5900XT cards are usually single slot also. 5900 and 5900 Ultras are usually double slot because of the huge heatsink and fan.

The similarity in Performance between the XT and the plain version is explained by the fact that (1) the core remains at 400MHz and (2) the memory interface is the same for both. That is to say that the XT is very, very quick. Even though its memory is a tad slower, the aggressive memory timings used by some allows the 5900XT to catch up quickly with the plain vanilla 5900. How does it fare generally? In most benchmarks, this card would remain close to the top, above the plain Radeon 9800, which speaks volume about the performance of this little thing.
There aren't too many 5900 or 5900Ultra cards out there. Most will either be the SE/XT. That is until Nvidia stops making them....

Leadtek makes a good XT card that can OC like nobody's business:

BFGTech is producing an OC model. It is overclocked from the factory and maintains full warranty.

If you want to go ATI, the 9800Pro is a good buy.

Hmmm.... I was comparing 9800 pro with 5900se and thought they were pretty comparable. I was going to go with the SE because it is like $40 cheaper.

Looks like to compare apples to apples though you need to compare a 9800 pro with a 5900 regular edition. They are roughly the same price.

\I will probably go with a 9800 pro. I don't want my videocard to take up two slots and I heard those two slot cards are loud as heck.

I think the picture quality on the 9800 Pro is better anyway. Go for it!

I agree with Midknyte -- Leadtek makes one of, if not the best, GeForce cards. But, for the money, the 9800 Pro is superior to the regular 5900 let-alone the XT model.

    Good luck!

Nice find Midknyte, that Leadtek looks real slick. I'd go for it.
