I just got that Microsoft Security CD...

    Hey,

Remember that security update CD that Microsoft was giving out like a month ago? Well if finally came. I will try and use it now, and it should make future Windows XP installations easier.

Has anyone else gotten it yet?

It will make installations easier by just installing updates via CD and not having to go to the cumbersome Windows Update website. This CD, in addition to a slipstreamed SP1 CD, and your computer is pretty much set to go (that's until SP2, of course).

Aah! I thought you were talking about SP2 when you said Security Update!

we don't get update CD's over here, we have to download or buy a magazine w\ the updates on the cover disk.

I got the notification it was shipped, but it's not here yet, but I'm with you in that it should make new installations and reinstalls faster since no downloads or at least fewer will be needed.

i got that on March 7th itself but it doesn't have most of 2K hotfixes....

I haven't installed 2K yet....in any case i am trying to apply all hotfixes with an unattended install.

The CD carried most of XP hotfixes. If i am not mistaken the cd was supposed to carry last 6 months hotfix's till Feb 2004.

    It has 2K SP4,dx9b, XPSP1a, mediaplayer for Xp and 2K/Me/98, ie6sp1 (full)...

And one Etrust EZ Armour LE Firewall Suite Trial (One year)....

    It has 2K SP4,
Doesn't 2000 SP4 contain most of the lastest 2000 security updates? I know Sp4 would include all the previous fixes and the last few on the CD would be the ones after that. I am not surprised that it does not have a lot.

it has SP4 and one hotfix "Windows2000-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe"

i thought they should have included all the others maybe they were not released in the last Six months.

SP4 was released way back and there were feast of hotfixes released after that....

there are app fixes like for IE6sp1,Dx9 and the OE hotfix thats about it.

You still need to use Windows Update or can do a manual download of the following ones(in case you do a fresh install):

I dunno if they were released in the last six months or so before feb.

The security update disk is supposed to have critical security and other updates thru Oct. of last year (2003) per the offer page. I noticed that it has SP4 on it and I just paid M$ for a copy of that on CD a couple of days before I ordered this freebie. Trying to get them to let me send the darn thing back for a refund...fat chance.

The internet security software is the EZ Armor from CA as I thought. Anyone have any exprience with it? I used the AV a long time ago when it was free for personal use (and called InnoculateIT) and it was pretty good then, at least I thought so.

The disk also has: Direct X 9.x, MediaPlayer 7.1 and 9.x, IE 6-SP1, XP SP1a, M$ Data Access Components 2.8, Win2k SP4, etc. All in all nearly 500MB of stuff that I won't have to DL again.

I didn't know it had all that, it looks like it will be even more helpful than I thought.
